West Broad Marketplace is a retail destination located in the Short Pump retail trade area. Anchored by Wegmans and Cabela’s, this 465,000 SF center was designed to serve a rapidly developing residential and commercial corridor. VHB’s integrated engineering team supported NVRetail with the development of the master plan and solved several complex engineering challenges, including overcoming 70 feet of grade change across the site—resulting in the need to move half a million cubic yards of earth to create the large anchor retail pad sites. To create these massive pads, a 30-foot-high retaining wall had to be incorporated and sequenced into the construction drawings. When this asset was purchased by MetLife, VHB continued to advance the development of the outparcels, integrating Verizon and three fast casual restaurants. Our relationship with Henrico County regulators has been instrumental in streamlining reviews and expediting the approvals process—helping retailers get open for business ahead of schedule.
