National Development

This high-profile redevelopment project has transformed the former Boston Herald newspaper site in Boston’s South End into a vibrant residential and retail block. Ink Block features over 400 residential units, restaurants, and 85,000 SF of ground floor retail, including a flagship 50,000 SF Whole Foods Market. National Development relied on VHB to lead the City of Boston Article 80 and the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act review process. We designed new utility infrastructure, including an extensive stormwater recharge facility to satisfy the City’s Groundwater Conservation Overlay District requirements. This development created a new walkable and transit accessible shopping destination that serves the South End, South Boston, and Chinatown, as well as Ink Block residents.
