Bronx Terminal Market is an urban shopping center located near Yankee Stadium. In 2004, Related purchased the rights to the property and invested $500 million in the development of this retail center, bringing local and national retailers to an underserved market. VHB was instrumental in working with the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) early on to determine the feasibility of this development from an accessibility perspective. The site was targeted for redevelopment as part of a larger economic development plan for the area, but NYCEDC knew that the project’s success hinged on solving complex transportation challenges. VHB worked with NYCEDC and The Related Companies to solve access and roadway capacity issues which helped turn this underutilized site into a thriving commercial area. Bronx Terminal Market is a key component to revitalizing this urban neighborhood.
