Walt Whitman Shops is a premier shopping destination with nearly 100 retailers in 1.2 million SF of gross leasable area. The renovation and expansion of this center maximized the value of this asset. The outside of the mall was activated by expanding and redesigning the facade with outward facing shops and creating a high-quality pedestrian experience. Simon also improved the dining experience, adding major restaurants including P.F. Chang’s China Bistro and Brio Tuscan Grille. VHB designed phased utility relocations for the open and active mall and provided stormwater design solutions that maximized parking and build-out potential. In addition, we relocated a bus transfer station and planned off-site improvements that enhanced access to the shops. Serving as the owner’s town coordinator, VHB facilitated key phases of development and permitting with the Town of Huntington, which allowed the Shops to open on schedule.
