Town Center of Virginia Beach is a mixed-use development that features upscale retail, restaurants, office, luxury residences, as well as entertainment uses. Armada Hoffler relied on VHB’s deep relationships with local agencies and understanding of complex urban design to facilitate the entitlements for several phases within the development. In addition, we addressed site constraints not originally contemplated when Town Center was master planned. VHB modified the street and pedestrian patterns to allow for wider sidewalks, which was key to activating the outdoor dining spaces. Critical to the projects’ success was the development of a stormwater system that supported the master stormwater management plan. VHB ensured the stormwater systems worked in concert with the utilities for this 17-block center resulting in minimal conflicts and ease of construction. Town Center is a vibrant destination that serves as an economic catalyst for both the city and broader region.
